Description
This annual event seeks to help our region move towards a more sustainable future by bringing together non-profit and government agencies, community organizations, businesses, educators, and individuals from around the north state region to share innovative products, ideas, hand’s-on learning activities, local music and food, walking, skating, and biking in a festive and fun atmosphere. Now in its 7th year, this Festival is a true community celebration of the social, economic, and environmental solutions for our planet that together enhance the health and livability of our region while protecting the vital watersheds and natural resources we all depend on. It was started by a small group of local non-profits and educators who believed that there was a lack of understanding about the importance of environmental issues to the vitality of individuals, the community, and the region. This type of event was picked as a way to introduce and expand this concept and connect people already working toward this goal together in a fun way.
This event also provides a platform for important networking between local groups, organizations, educators, and businesses to support one another and grow our region as a "Green" town as well as continues to educate and raise awareness for our attendees about the importance of our connection to nature and how easy it is to make small changes in their lifestyles and spending habits that benefit their own health and the health of the planet. It has grown steadily over the last 6 years into a successful community event reaching across all aspects of the community and region.
The event features a wide variety of exhibitors (over 100), live music, excellent local food, extended hours at the Farmers Market, loads of incredible hand’s-on activities for all ages, give-aways, the 2nd annual Recycling Cart Art Contest, and a brand new “Build It Bazaar” (featuring re-purposed items). There is also an Open Street part of the Festival (Family Biking Day)providing a way for participants to celebrate biking, running, and walking (or anything non-motorized), meet neighbors and generally have fun in the street! It remains the only “Open Street” event north of San Francisco. The location of the Open Street piece highlights and connects our river trail system, the iconic Sundial Bridge and our local science museum with the main Exhibitor site at City Hall. There is also a Free Transit Day to promote use of rapid transit in the region.
