Description
The Creating Landscapes for Families: Community Garden at the Ackerman Farm is an initiative which strives to meet the nutritional and social needs of low-income populations in the greater Meadville area. Founded in May 2010 by a dedicated group of stakeholders from Creating Landscapes for Families, the Community Garden is a summer program that aims to help families learn to grow, prepare, and enjoy nutritious food together. Garden families and volunteers meet three times each week at the garden site to plant, weed, water, and harvest, sharing the work on one community plot of land, donated by our partnering farmer. Monthly potlucks allow families to share recipes made from the garden harvest, and an annual Harvest Dinner in September celebrates the successes of the season and our supporters from the community.
