Description
The Pequonnock River is one of Trumbull’s greatest natural resources and is enjoyed by thousands bikers and hikers who travel the rail trail through the Pequonnock River Valley State Park. An extensive initiative for cleaning up the river is being undertaken by the communities through which the river flows, which includes monitored water testing and plans to stem excess runoff. GyG (the Grace Youth Group) is partnering with the CT Fund for the Environment and Save Our Sound to take just a small part in this important initiative on September 24th. Please join with other green minded Trumbull citizens as we roll up our sleeves – and maybe our pants legs – to pick up debris and trash that has accumulated in a section of the river at the northern end of town. We’re going to be green and bike to this event. Our bikepool leaves Trumbull Center at 1:30 (at the head of the rail trail). For those who cannot bike, directions to the cleanup site itself will also soon be posted on the Grace website. Free T-Shirts will be given to all who register for this event in advance at www.gracetrumbull.org. Not only is the cleanup happening on National Estuaries Day, it is also one of thousands of environmental actions around the world on Moving Planet Day, organized by 350.org. Following the cleanup, participants are invited to join GyG as they head up to the Moving Connecticut Rally in New Haven. People from across the state who have also been taking environmental actions will join together for some music, food, a bicycle ride through New Haven, a giant mass photograph, and also a showing of the movie Wall-E on the New Haven Green with bicycle powered projectors. For more info about the rally in New Haven and other environmental events across the state on 9/24, visit www.350ct.org.
