Description

Sacramento's Business Environmental
Resource Center(BERC) instituted an annual pollution prevention awards
event in 1995.  In 2007, the program was expanded to a year round
activity, reaching out to more businesses and organizations, promoting
voluntary actions to reduce their environmental footprint, and enhance
their sustainability.  To join the program, a business implements
sustainability measures and completes a certification checklist which
is verified.  Certified businesses are provided a placard to display
at their facility and publicized on the website and in the quarterly
newsletter. Over 300 businesses in the Capitol Metro area of Northern
California have joined the Sustainable Business Program, in cities
such as Auburn, Cameron Park, Chico, Citrus Heights, Davis, El Dorado
Hills, Elk Grove, Fair Oaks, Fairfield, Folsom, Galt, Gold River,
Granite Bay, Lincoln, Loomis, McClellan, Nevada City, North Highlands,
Orangevale, Oroville, Placerville, Pleasant Grove, Rancho Cordova, Rio
Linda, Rocklin, Roseville, Sacramento, Stockton, Vacaville, West
Sacramento, & Yuba City.  The program is made possible through the
financial of BERC, cities, counties, government agencies, utility
districts, chambers of commerce, and private businesses.
