Description
Pam Neal of Stamford, whose children
attend Greenwich Catholic School, offered to be the lead in the GIVE
project for GCS. She saw to soil preparation, raised beds, water
supply, choice of plants, monitoring of progress; care, weeding,
watering and harvesting thru the growing season. GCS decided to donate
their surplus produce to the Food Pantry. Lessons learned: tending the
soil, growing plants, harvesting for personal consumption and for
sharing. It was a seed-to-table experience for the children and a
boost to the nutritional needs of those served by the Food Pantry. It
was a lesson in caring for the earth and for those in need.
